Background
Deeper interaction and involvement of Russia in the field of education and academia in India is one of the priorities proposed by the country. The Russian ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, stated that education could prove to be a “strong pillar” in building the strategic relationship between India and Russia. He made these comments at the launch of the second Russia-India Education summit, where he pointed out that both countries have had a strong relationship in the past when it comes to education.
Both countries are looking for new forms of collaboration in the sphere of education. He said Russia maintains rigorous education standards and noted that India has also made considerable progress, adding that both countries have much to gain from each other.
The ambassador stressed the need to increase Indian student enrolment in Russian universities and expand Russian language study centres across India. He also underlined the growing demand for broader scientific and academic exchanges between the two countries.
The summit, organised by Rossotrudnichestvo with support from the Russian Embassy in India, brought together representatives from more than 50 leading higher educational institutions, along with members from public, political, expert, and academic circles of both nations. The two-day programme featured thematic panel discussions and roundtable sessions covering academic cooperation, student mobility, scientific exchanges, and institutional partnerships.
Alipov expressed optimism about the summit’s response and hoped that similar forums would continue in the future as part of efforts to strengthen India-Russia people-to-people ties. The summit concluded in the last week of May.
