Background-
Karnataka wants to teach artificial intelligence to students as young as Class 6. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar revealed the plan, along with news that the state will build India’s first government-led AI University in Bengaluru.
Shivakumar posted the announcement on X. He said the state government wants to turn Karnataka into an AI-native state through spending on education, research and digital infrastructure.
Bengaluru will host the new AI University. The school will train professionals in artificial intelligence and other emerging tech fields. Alongside the university, the government wants to build an AI Hub.
This hub will link schools, startups and industry players together for research and innovation work. Class 6 students stand at the center of the plan. Officials want children to learn AI basics early so they can build careers in technology later in life.
The state government is not stopping at education. It also wants to build two hyperscale green data centres. These centres will handle cloud computing and large-scale data processing needed for AI research, built with sustainability in mind from the start.
All these moves fall under Karnataka’s wider AI policy. The state wants to become one of India’s top spots for artificial intelligence, innovation and tech growth.
Many details remain unclear.
Officials have not shared the school curriculum, the university’s admission rules or a timeline for any of these projects. Still, if the plans go through, they could open up AI learning for students at every level and cement Karnataka’s place among India’s leading tech hubs.
