Healthcare reforms, implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the growing role of digital communication in politics were the main focus areas at a workshop attended by nearly 80 MPs and MLAs in New Delhi in the last week of May.
The workshop was organised by the Nation First Policy Research and Change Foundation (NFPRC) at the India Habitat Centre. Lawmakers from the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and different State Assemblies joined policy experts to discuss governance, public welfare delivery and communication strategies.
NFPRC Chairperson Tarun Chugh stated that governance today requires stronger coordination between institutions and greater use of data-driven policymaking to improve the delivery of government schemes at the grassroots level.
Discussions about Ayushman Bharat, as well as making the provision of cost-effective medicines a reality, took place in the healthcare sector. According to BJP MP C.N. Manjunath, there should be proper implementation in the district to fulfil the concept of Viksit Bharat@2047. Among other areas related to health, which were highlighted at the conference, were the PM-JAY programme, Health and Wellness Centres, and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
Among other reforms discussed in the workshop was the reform in the education sector brought in by the NEP 2020.
According to Saurabh Chopra, senior director at Central Square Foundation, competency-based learning, learning through technology, as well as vocational training, is key to enhancing learning achievements as well as ensuring that learners have future employability skills.
The topic of communication through digital media was also discussed in the workshop. BJP MP Sambit Patra talked about the significance of narrative-building, social media outreach and combating misinformation on the Internet.
He pointed out that good communication skills will help lawmakers build public awareness regarding government policies.
In addition to this, there was a video speech made by Aashish Chandorkar, Counsellor of India at India’s Permanent Mission to the WTO, Geneva. In his speech, he touched upon India’s pandemic response and its vaccination drive through the use of the CoWIN platform.
