Background
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) has launched ANUGYAN – Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP) in partnership with Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd. (CEEPL). The institute said the programme is India’s first industry-academia initiative designed to prepare engineers and industry professionals for the country’s expanding civil nuclear energy sector.
The three-month fully residential programme blends the academic know-how of IIT Hyderabad with hands-on instruction from seasoned nuclear industry executives. It aims to provide participants with both classroom learning and real-world industrial exposure.
The institute said the programme supports India’s efforts to strengthen self-reliance in nuclear engineering education, workforce development and clean energy technologies. It is also expected to help meet the growing demand for skilled professionals as India plans to expand its nuclear power generation capacity from about 8.8 GWe to 100 GWe by 2047.
The curriculum covers major areas of nuclear engineering, including reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation safety, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), engineering design, quality assurance, AERB regulatory compliance and simulator-based training. The programme is designed to give participants practical knowledge of modern nuclear engineering.
ANUGYAN is open to engineering graduates, working professionals, PSU executives, EPC contractors and industrial equipment manufacturers. Participants who complete the course will receive a joint certificate from IIT Hyderabad and Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd.
The programme has been introduced under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by IIT Hyderabad, Dassault Systèmes and Crimson Energy Experts during Bharat Innovate 2026 in the first week of August in Nice, France. The agreement supports the creation of the Centre of Design Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (CODENE), which will focus on advanced nuclear engineering design, digital simulation and collaborative research.
