Background:
An industry-linked internship initiative is providing school students across India with early exposure to professional work environments. Giving them an opportunity to apply classroom learning in practical settings.
The Gen-i Industry Internship programme selects students from different regions of the country and places them in structured internships with industry mentors. During the internship period, students work on ongoing assignments and assist teams in areas such as research, product development, communication planning and basic business strategy.
The initiative aims to familiarise students with workplace expectations and industry processes at a formative stage of their education.
Organisers said the programme is designed to reduce the gap between academic study and professional requirements by allowing students to observe and participate in real projects. Through direct interaction with working professionals, students gain insight into how organisations operate and how ideas are developed and executed.
This year, a few students also got the opportunity to present their work at international events held in Dubai. During the visit, they met business founders and industry representatives and spoke about the projects they had worked on.
The experience gave them a clearer idea of how companies operate outside India and what new sectors are emerging globally. Many parents and teachers have responded positively to the programme. They say that giving students exposure to real workplaces at the school level helps them think more seriously about their future careers.
The initiative is being coordinated from Bengaluru and is slowly adding more schools and industry partners. According to organisers, the aim is to ensure that students graduate not only with academic knowledge but also with a practical understanding of how professional environments function.
