Key Background :
Following years of calling, Meta has launched a native WhatsApp app for Apple iPad users, at last filling the gap in platform support. While iPad users previously had to make do with WhatsApp Web or third-party hacks, which tended to be lacking features and conferred usability or security constraints, the new app provides native support, and WhatsApp is henceforth completely usable and optimized for the iPad’s interface and functionality.
The iPad app of WhatsApp replicates almost all the features present on the smartphone model. It enables users to exchange encrypted messages, place voice and video calls, and share media files, all in a safe and accessible interface. One feature that stands out is its capability to include up to 32 users in group calls, a feature that facilitates both private and business communication.
Installation of the app is done by connecting the iPad to a pre-existing WhatsApp account on a smartphone via a QR code. After linking, the iPad operates autonomously, such that it can send and receive messages even when the linked smartphone is not connected. All the messages are still end-to-end encrypted for protection across devices.
It is the multitasking feature support of the iPad version that makes it stand out. Users can take advantage of Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over to chat while working on other applications at the same time. It is particularly convenient for business users or students who depend on multitasking while in meetings, studying, or group work.
Screen sharing on a call further sets the iPad version apart as a tool for diverse communication needs. With this capability and the iPad’s increased screen space and camera configuration, remote collaboration, customer service, and even everyday interactions like real-time sharing of media are made even better.
Meta’s launch of this iPad incarnation is a strategic step towards enhancing WhatsApp’s cross-platform utility and usage. As tablets gain more usage for productivity as well as entertainment, having a powerful messaging platform such as WhatsApp natively present brings enormous value to users. The launch also speaks to Meta’s overall mission to deliver an effortless user experience across platforms, particularly since digital communication continues to become more device-agnostic.
