Background
The IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has partnered with the Education Ministry’s SWAYAM Plus to launch a free AI training program for rural school teachers across India. The initiative helps teachers use modern tools and improve learning by using AI responsibly.
Titled “AI for Educators – K12 Teachers (Classes I to XII)”, the certification course will start on February 5, 2026. Interested teachers can register until January 31, 2026. The programme is designed as a 40-hour training course and focuses on helping teachers use AI confidently in classroom teaching and learning processes.
According to an official statement, the course includes an introductory session followed by eight structured modules. These modules cover key topics such as generative AI tools, prompt engineering, gamification, storytelling, and AI-based lesson planning. The programme also introduces educators to student engagement tools like augmented and virtual reality, visualisation techniques, and AI-enabled assessment methods.
The training further focuses on subject-specific AI applications, inclusive education strategies, and online teaching platforms. Teachers will learn how to design AI-powered teaching materials, conduct blended and online classes, and use AI tools for assessment and grading.
A major focus of the programme is inclusivity. It encourages teachers to adopt AI strategies that support diverse learners and ensure fair and ethical use of technology in schools. Post-training, educators are expected to apply AI tools in ways that enhance student participation and understanding.
To encourage teachers from underserved areas, the program removed the certification fee for the first 500 rural teachers who complete the course. The initiative aims to reduce the digital gap and give rural educators skills for the future.
The programme strengthens India’s push toward technology-driven education while ensuring accessibility and responsible innovation in classrooms.
