Background
The Central Board of Secondary Education has launched a nationwide training programme to strengthen the teaching of Skill Education at the middle school level. The program focuses on teachers of Classes VI to VIII and aims to make skill-based learning more practical in the classroom.
According to CBSE Notification No. 14/2026, the month-long programme will include one-day training workshops conducted in several cities across the country. These include Faridabad, New Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Bengaluru, and other locations. CBSE’s Skill Education Division will oversee the initiative.
Each workshop will run from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm and follow an activity-based format. Teachers, vice-principals, and principals will take part in hands-on sessions designed to reflect real classroom situations. A key focus will be on the use of NCERT’s Kaushal Bodh textbooks, which support experiential learning and help students connect skills with different subjects.
CBSE said the training is an important step toward improving education quality and ensuring that Skill Education becomes a meaningful part of the middle school curriculum. The board noted that the programme will help teachers move beyond theory and adopt practical teaching methods that build real-life skills.
The workshops will be hosted by selected CBSE-affiliated schools. While there is no participation fee, attendees will need to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. Schools have been asked to inform host institutions in advance about their participants to help with planning and material distribution. Participants must also bring their Kaushal Bodh textbooks for practical demonstrations.
Teachers who complete the training will serve as master trainers. They will later share their learning with colleagues in their schools and regions, helping expand the impact of the programme.
With Skill Education now mandatory at the middle school level, CBSE said the initiative supports its goal of developing students’ problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical skills alongside academic learning.
