Background:

In a key move to support the India-UK Vision 2035, the UK Education Hub was launched at the British Council in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Hub aims to strengthen cooperation between India and the UK in education, research, and skills development.

The launch was attended by David Lammy, UK Deputy Prime Minister, who inaugurated the Hub along with Lindy Cameron OB CBE, British High Commissioner to India, Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director India, British Council, Prof Eloise Philips, Academic Provost, Southampton University Delhi, and other dignitaries from both countries, including Steve Smith, the UK’s Champion for International Education.

The British Council, which has led India-UK education cooperation for over 78 years, has established the Hub to provide a single, structured platform for engagement between the two nations. The Hub will enable collaboration with Indian government ministries, regulators, universities, and sector bodies, ensuring smooth transfer of information and stronger partnerships in education.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Prime Minister Lammy said, “To build a better future, we must invest in the next generation who will shape it. Expanding access to education will create lasting change.” He added that the Hub would bring governments, universities, and institutions together, spark innovation, and strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

The UK Education Hub will manage the Annual Ministerial India-UK Education Dialogue, coordinate requests from UK universities seeking engagement in India, and create the UK Universities in India Members Programme. It will also support progress on mutual recognition of qualifications and facilitate both inward and outward education and skills missions.

The Hub will bring India and the UK together to create more education opportunities, support growth for everyone, and build stronger connections between people. Officials say it will help train future entrepreneurs, scientists, and leaders, bringing the Vision 2035 goals closer.
