Background:
Monash University and the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) have started a dual-degree programme. It allows Indian engineering students to study in India first and complete their final years in Australia.
The programme begins in August 2026. Eligible Bachelor of Technology students at MIT will transfer to Monash University for the last two years of their degree. Students will earn two degrees one from MIT and one from Monash.
The dual degree will first be offered in software engineering and chemical engineering. The programme will offer up to 60 transfer spots each year. Students will receive credit at Monash for the courses completed at MIT.
Chemical engineering students will study industrial process design, reaction engineering, process control, and particle technology. Software engineering students will learn software security, cloud computing, operating systems, software architecture, and the use of artificial intelligence.
The partnership is based on an agreement that sets out the academic structure, credit transfers, and support for students at both campuses. Students must meet Monash’s admission rules and Australian visa requirements.
The programme gives students international experience, practical learning, and better career opportunities. It also strengthens ties between India and Australia in higher education.
The initiative has received backing from the Victorian Government’s Yes to International Students Fund, which supports international education partnerships and encourages more collaboration between Australian and overseas institutions.
