Background

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) and Vietnam National University (VNU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic and research collaboration. The agreement is expected to increase collaboration in working on projects, exchange of faculty, and scientific development providing scholars, educators, and students with an opportunity at both institutions.

The partnership will focus on a wide range of areas. These include artificial intelligence (AI) in medical diagnosis and hospital systems for Vietnam, AI-driven education tools, language learning technologies, infrastructure defect detection, and smart city initiatives. It will also cover innovative applications in materials, carbon-carbon technologies, and the use of drones for rescue missions and agricultural productivity.

A VNU delegation led by Vice Rector Dr Nguyen Thu Huong, along with Prof Nguyen Dinh Duc and Dr Tran Quoc Quan, visited IIT Kanpur to review research facilities and discuss future projects.

Prof Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, said the collaboration would build capacity in crucial areas like AI, sustainable energy, and drone technology. Prof Nguyen Dinh Duc added that the visit had been highly productive and highlighted IIT Kanpur’s strengths in critical fields of research.

In a separate development, IIT Kanpur admitted five students through the Olympiad route for the 2025–26 academic year. All of them opted for the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program, even though seats were also offered in Mathematics, Economics, Biological Sciences, and Chemistry.
