Key Background :

Google has set its foot into the entertainment world by launching its new production house, “100 Zeroes,” alongside Range Media Partners, a leading talent agency. The name “100 Zeroes” is an allusion to the mathematical term “googol,” which symbolizes both the company’s vision and scope on one hand and its creative strength on the other. Google is venturing into the film and television production business in a bid to redefine its public perception and capture Gen Z youth as well as other attention.

The long-term aim of “100 Zeroes” is to make Google products more wanted, such as Android phones, Nest home devices, and others such as Immersive View. In this way, Google wants to be less product-selling-oriented and more product-wanting-oriented. It is particularly important to Google because Google competes intensely with Apple, whose products are generally seen as trendier and more wanted by younger audiences.

Rather than airing its own content on its own channels, like Google TV or YouTube, the new studio will aim to supply its content to major streaming heavyweights like Netflix, as well as old-school Hollywood movie studios. That way, Google will be able to expose more and diverse people to its content and its technology on popular sites across the globe.

The entertainment business, too, faces even more daunting challenges, including the rising cost of production and mounting dominance of streaming sites on the global marketplace. It is Google’s gambit to be culturally relevant by appealing to younger buyers who are more likely to form an emotional bond with companies that shape the universe of entertainment. The studio’s TV shows and productions are likely to have Google’s new technology, such as augmented reality (AR), to make products interactive and realistic.

Through “100 Zeroes,” Google is not only strengthening its foothold in the entertainment sector but also trying to redefine itself as a front-running generator of popular stories of technology and lifestyle in the contemporary world.
