Background
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said India is moving towards becoming self-reliant in artificial intelligence (AI) by focusing on indigenous AI solutions. Speaking at Delhi University’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College during a Shramdaan and Swachhata Abhiyan, he stressed the importance of connecting technology with Indian languages.
“We are going to become self-reliant in artificial intelligence by developing indigenous AI. It should be ensured that we ask maximum questions of AI in Indian languages. The connection between Indian languages and technology must be strengthened to preserve them,” Pradhan said.
Leading a cleanliness drive outside the campus, the minister underlined that cleanliness should be seen as a continuous practice, not a one-time event. He added that India’s youth are both beneficiaries and architects of national development.
The programme, organised by the Department of Higher Education along with ARSD College, also featured a tree plantation drive under the nationwide initiative Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam (One Tree for Motherhood).
Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh, Registrar Vikas Gupta, and other senior faculty members attended the event. Pradhan applauded ARSD College for achieving a NAAC score of 3.77 and being ranked among the higher ones in NIRF rankings, which he attributed to the leadership of the Principal Professor Gyantosh Kumar Jha.
Joshi urged that Swachh Bharat should become a “people’s movement,” while Singh encouraged the college to expand green initiatives such as solar power and sewage treatment. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Vice-Principal Vineeta Tuli and a pledge to promote cleanliness, sustainability, and innovation.
